Play Writing / Spoken Word
Alia Ettienne, who goes by Alia J on stage, began playwriting in her high school year assisting with school plays behind the scenes. She then connected with the A.M.Y Project sharpening her skills as a playwright firstly in a collective writing process.
She began writing spoken word and dabbling in dub poetry after connecting with Bcurrent Theatre. After completing their summer arts program she continued on to experiment with the craft. Moving on to study Creative Writing at the University of Toronto she has since consistently incorporated this skill in her performances. Her playwriting and spoken word poetry is often showcased in unconventional theatre spaces within the GTA.
Her work in progress “Allow For Release: The Xiety Complex” plays heavily on spoken word as a form of expression.
